Under 9's 2002-3

Under 9’s Page
Welcome to the Under 9’s team page. This is the part of the new Northwich RUFC club site dedicated to news, views and information about the Under 9’s team.
Like the rest of this site, the information included here will change and improve in time. I hope soon for example to include team photographs, match results and match reports. For the moment though we’re concentrating on accurate fixture details and for away matches (click on the directions label name in the Result & report column or look at their web site - see link in the Opponents column)
Like you all I’m looking forward to the start of the new season, to playing again and training to improve the teams’ skills and to help everyone enjoy their rugby more. Don’t forget to tell your friends about your team as well, you can give them this web site address and better still, encourage them to come down on Sunday mornings at 10.30am for training. Like last season all ‘newcomers’ can come along during September for free, all they need is some boots. Also look out this year for joint activities with Sale Sharks and Sport Cheshire. We are one of Sale’s partner clubs this season and can expect regular visits by our adopted Sale player, by Sharkie their mascot and special offers on tickets.

The new season will start with Registration Day on Sunday September 1st. Come down in your kit for training with your parents and after we’ll be organising a barbeque. You should receive a registration for by post late in August, please bring it along on the day and of course if you have any questions beforehand or during the season, please feel free to contact me as always using my details below.

End of Season Report
When I was younger I was told that you only get out of something what you put into it, and these lads have got their just rewards. At the start of the season myself and the lads parents were a bit apprehensive about how they would take to tackling, no worries in the end, the only worry was the team on the receiving end.
Obviously winning the Cheshire Cup was the high light of the season, not having a try put past us was the cherry on the top of the cake.We also did very well at the Wilmslow tournament getting beaten by a lucky try, Matt Beesley having a try disallowed in the dying seconds (unlucky Matt).
On Sunday morning games we were beaten just once by them over the road and only having 6 tries put past us out of 16 games.
May I take this opportunity in thanking all the coaching staff for support this season and most importantly the dedicated parents who bring the lads every week standing in the rain, and rarely sunshine, thank you so much.

Dave

Last Season’s Report (as U8’s)
A great season yet again. Sadly Mellisa Mottershawe had to leave part way through the season to concentrate on her studies. Good luck with the exams Mellisa, all your “little ones” miss you. This year saw us playing in the Lloyds TSB 6 Nations Club Tour Tournament where we were narrowly beaten by Wilmslow in the Semi Finals but a great day was had by parents and kids alike as we received bags full of goodies and free tickets to the Sale v London Wasps game. The U8’s were defending champions at the Hoylake 7’s and put up a valiant defence. Eventually they succumbed to the administrators and were denied victory on tries for count back—a very hard way to loose. They were also runners up at the Rochdale Tournament but played no small part in earning us the Aggregate cup.

In all competitions the team only lost 4 games—which is a very good performance.
