U14 Match Reports 2004-5

26th September U14 vs Lymm (Away) Lost 31-0

Northwich under 14’s kicked off their 2004/5 season in disappointing style loosing 31-0 at Lymm. Northwich dominated in the set but failed to capitalise on this with Lymm running the ball where possible, this combined with some indifferent tackling allowed the home team to take the upper hand. Northwich showed some glimpses of what is to come against a side that has already played several times this season, but need to collectively inject more effort and commitment.

10th October U14 vs Wirral (Home) Lost
Northwich under 14’s entertained Wirral on Sunday, coming out eventual losers in a hard fought battle. Both sides had had spells of domination with Northwich back to their ferocious best knocking back anything in the tackle. Credit is due to Wirral who capitalised on any mistakes and made the most of some suspect defensive cover to run in and score.

Northwich U14’s took a squad reduced due to injury and unavailability to Crewe & Nantwich on Sunday and turned in what can only be described as a massive team performance winning 38-10. Playing as a team and with outstanding commitment they took on the opposition and simply relished the task, running in 6 tries with 3 converted. Man of the match Rob Garner bagged a hatrick. Ben Renshaw, Sam Canniffe and Chris Jones rounded of the tries with Joel Barber adding the conversions.

30th January U14 vs Crewe & Nantwch (Home) Won 51-7
A game that typified all that is good about junior rugby, both sides looking to run the ball when and where ever possible supported by some close fought forward battles resulted in a score line that did not do justice to the efforts of both teams Northwich coming out run away winners 51 : 7. The Northwich forwards took the play to the opposition providing a platform for some promising back play with support always on hand from the forwards.  This continued despite wholesale changes at half time when 8 players were swapped to provide everybody with a run out including brand new players.  The Northwich scorers were tries Dodd 3, Garner 2, Ridgeway, McColm, Jones and Cunniffe 1 each conversions from Barber & Clancey.

10th April U14 vs Whitchurch (Away) Won 41-26
A spirited performance saw 13 Northwich players take on a full strength Whitchurch team. A show of determination, skill and effort saw the Northwich side turn around a half time deficit of 21-10 with tries evenly spread between forwards and backs. A fine performance proving the merits of superior fitness and organisation.
