Coach’s End of Season Report Another terrific season, not as much silverware as we would have liked, but a solid performance from a developing side. We played 24 games not including tournaments and our figures were Won 20 Drawn 1 Lost 3—not bad by anyone's standards. We went into the Cheshire Cup with a real determination to make our mark. As it was I think the weather made the biggest mark. A cold and miserable day saw us progress fairly straightforwardly from the league stages to the knock out where we met Lymm (last years winners) in the quarter finals. Having dispatched Lymm 3—0 we faced Wirral in the Semi’s. By this time most of the lads shirts were saturated and thick with mud and we just couldn’t raise the game enough and went out to the eventual winners. However, our day was not done, we still had the Plate to play for and some very muddy and tired children faced Macclesfield in the plate final. Where they got the energy from is beyond me, but they dug deep and came up with another winning performance to take the Plate and 3rd overall. At Hoylake we were very unfortunate to not make the final on try count—we drew one and won 2 games but there was no semi’s only a final so we missed our chance to claim that elusive 7’s title. At Rochdale we were caught napping in our first game against Widnes and lost 2—1, however we fought on bravely to reach the semi final but an already depleted squad was further weakened by injury and we had to give way. We have grown the squad a little through the year and finish the season with 15 players, which is good news as we step up to 12 a side rugby next year. I would like to thank Kevin Jones for joining me in the coaching duties this season, the difference an extra pair of hands makes is terrific and Kevin brings a lot of rugby knowledge to the field. Also thanks to Ian Gordon and Bob Din for assisting in training (being targets!) and warm up routines and to Richard Woodhead & Paul Turrell for keeping a track of scores and scorers and to Simon Bridle for the photos and for telling Christopher to stop whining and to get on with the job. Thanks also to other parents that have fetched and carried and generally supported the cause.
