Club wins RFU Volunteer Award The club have been recognised for the work and commitment put in by the all the club members who give their ‘voluntary’ time to the running and organising of the wide range of events the club runs. Presented to only a small number of clubs per region the club will be receiving a special RFU award plague at an official presentation shortly. This is what the judges had to say about our nomination. Northwich RUFC They are a very well run community rugby club in the truest sense of the word. They run three or four adult teams each Saturday, a women’s team, Girls rugby at U17 and U14 as well as a full crop of mini and junior rugby on a Sunday. They have a great team of volunteers who work tirelessly for not just the club but for rugby. They have worked extensively in the local community with over 20 volunteer coaches working on various projects; social inclusion in Winsford in the Over Two and Wharton wards (Sport England Priority Areas) and disability tag rugby in three special schools in Vale Royal BC as well as running a series of out of school hours summer sessions for MLD /SLD kids supported by Toc H and the local PCT. These volunteer coaches also deliver sessions in secondary and primary schools throughout the Vale Royal Borough. The club hosts a primary tag festival, girls U14 festival; as well hosting and supporting the emerging and state schools festivals. They have twice been Sport Cheshire Community Sports Club of the Year in 2003 & 2004 and were runners up in this year’s BBC NW Community Sports Club of the Year. They have an excellent record of getting the best from their volunteers through recognition and reward. Thanks everyone who has helped make this season a great success. If you’d like to help the club we are particularly looking for junior team managers for the new season starting in September. If you are interested please call Simon Bridle at 01606 881971 or email him at sbridle@northwichrufc.co.uk. World Largest Tag Tournament? Well the Y5/6 tournament proved to be one of the ‘wettest’ Tag Tournaments ever. The local Guardian’s headline ‘Water way to celebrate kids rugby in Vale Royal’ described the day accurately. But despite the weather it was a celebration and 250 youngsters turned up from 17 primary schools across Vale Royal. The plan was to have 100 games of rugby in a two tier tournament of 5 pools to give every team 8 games each. However as everyone was cold and wet the tournament was stopped after the first pool games with 49 games played. Prizes were then awarded to the winners of each pool with the overall winner’s cup going to Hartford Riddings Lane. However at 49 games and 250 children, that’s still a big tournament and the application to the ‘Guiness Book of Records’ for the worlds largest Tag Rugby tournament still went ahead. Sale’s Sharkie mascot made an appearance along with Sale’s European Trophy. More Pictures and scores are on the 2005 Tag page (some photos courtesy of Northwich Guardian). Big Local Derby Match Saturday afternoon should prove to be an explosive weekend with the first cup match for many years between local Northwich rivals and neighbours Northwich and Winnington Park. As each club plays in different leagues it is many years that the two sides have met in anger. However the luck of the Powergen Intermediate Cup draw has brought the two 1st teams together for the clash at Moss Farm. Proceedings start at 3pm and to cater for the additional local interest the Moss Farm bar will be opening early at 1.30pm and the burger bar will be stocking extra bacon butties, burgers and soup. Northwich expect to be fielding a full strength side with England Under 18’s international player Chris Dale as well as a set of recent recruits playing at a high standard. Please come and support the club in this unique game, programs are available on the day at £2.00. See you on Saturday. October 2005

Welcome to the game - from Northwich Chairman & Committee It is with pleasure that we extend a warm welcome to players, officials and supporters from Winnington Park. On Saturday they make the short journey across the park for what we hope will be an epic confrontation and one to tell future generations about. The recent form of both sides has been quite different with Winnington unbeaten and joint top of North West Two. By contrast Northwich have only won one league match despite some outstanding performances. However the form book often goes out of the window when it comes to the cup and Northwich will be hoping to prove that point.. Northwich welcome back Brian Johnson and Steve Campbell after the second leg and final leg of a mates wedding. Winnington Park have a similar issue this week with some players away enjoying the delights of Amsterdam as part of a stag celebration. Why can’t people get married in the Summer? The club is in the grip of cup fever today with the 2nd XV at Macclesfield and the 3rdXV entertaining Burnley in their respective cup competitions. Northwich supporters will be hoping for progress for all our teams Finally we extend a warm welcome to today's referee Ged Stone and trust everyone enjoys match and the Northwich hospitality. Rugby for Young People with a Disability As part of its role as a community rugby club, Northwich Rugby club have arranged a series of special rugby sessions in the New Year. This initiative has been set up in response to a request from Vale Royal Borough Council's recently established ‘Mid Cheshire Multi Sports Club’. The club has been set up as a joint venture between Vale Royal and the Primary Care Trust, catering for young people from the age of 6 to 16 interested in sport. The aim of the rugby sessions, which will be run in conjunction with Mid Cheshire College, will be to introduce tag rugby to the youngsters. The course of sessions can then be extended for those who are interested, developing into the possible creation of a permanent Northwich club squad and participation in the annual tournament at the Preston Grasshopper's club in March. A number of existing Northwich coaches have been on appropriate training courses and are looking forward to working with the new Multi Sports Club. The first session will be at Mid Cheshire College in Hartford on Saturday 15th January at 10.30m and will run initially for six weeks. The event features a morning of "Tag Rugby" followed by an afternoon of "Calypso Cricket".
