RFU tighten rules on Police Checks. The RFU have recently reviewed their policy regarding the ‘CRB’ checks done for all coaches and helpers involved in junior and mini rugby. These changes mean that :-
a) Everyone must re-submit their CRB check every 3 years b) A CRB check done for another sport or profession no longer applies to Rugby. A separate CRB check must be done through the RFU. ie Teachers, policemen or coaches who are involved in with young people or who are coaching other sports must submit a separate form to the RFU. c) No one without a CRB check will be allowed to coach or help after January 1st 2007.
It normally takes 2 or 3 months to process these checks. So for all Northwich coaches or parent helpers who wish to coach must fill in the necessary forms asap. Phil Clarke has all the necessary forms, it only takes 10 mins to fill them in. His phone number is 01606 781441.In September a matrix showing the qualifications of each coach and whether they have a CRB number will be prominently displayed on the club’s notice board. Coaches and helpers, if you know that you haven’t filled in the forms, please do so immediately. The club risk sanction by the RFU and loss of its Club Mark status if coaches do not have correct checks and appropriate training. The club will be applying the RFU rules very vigorously and will be insisting that all coaches and helpers have also taken part in a Child protection course and a First Aid course. September 2006

Welcome to the 2006-7 season! Northwich RUFC enter season 2006/7 with a great deal of optimism and enthusiasm. On reflection, we can be proud of our achievements in year 2005/6; we were rightly presented with the BBC North West Community Club of the Year and despite a shaky start our first team finished strongly and ended up in fourth place in the Euromanx South Lancashire and Cheshire League One.
Rugby, in one form or another, is rapidly becoming an all year round sport; in July the Junior Section organized what might turn out to be a Guinness Book of Records entry for the biggest junior tag tournament. Also, at the end of July the Seniors took two teams to the Oldham 10's Tournament and the A team were narrowly beaten in the final. Finally, in August at the Northwich Festival, our Women’s Section hosted and participated in a Women’s 10’s tournament attended by a number of clubs from around the area.
A number of dedicated and visionary members have worked extremely hard over the summer and both Junior and Senior sections appear to be in excellent shape. We have a new 'home grown' 1st XV coach in Mike Penny and a number of high profile players have decided to join what we all hope will be a promotion squad of promising young players.
Our landlords, Vale Royal Borough Council, have invested £30,000 in upgrading the showers, the 1st XV pitch has been improved and a floodlit training area is soon to materialise. There are many other initiatives taking place and as a community club, with the support of our principal sponsor J J Cosgrove, Northwich RUFC and its many other sponsors intend to build upon last seasons achievements.
I look forward with eager anticipation to what promises to be a memorable season and thank you for supporting Northwich RUFC 'The Team of the Town.' Sam Naylor Chairman September 2006- for more news download the latest newsletter - 2006-7 Start of Season News

Off on tour The U14’s will be going on tour over Easter. They will be taking part in an organised tournament based at the Haven holidays complex in Ayr, Scotland against teams from across the UK. See http://www.havenholidays.com/Parks/scotlandNorthumberland/craigtara/ . Good luck lads. The U16 were in Dublin in February and although they didn’t win thier matches it was a great experience for the team as they enter the Colts League next season.
Thanks to a couple of successful ‘bag packing’ events in Winsford and sponsorship from Matalan and Pixel8 the club have managed to raise sufficient funding to help with new kit and help with costs of the tours and so make the tour more enjoyable for the team.

Third Time Lucky! The club is celebrating after scooping the prestigious ‘Sport England Community Club of the Year Award’ at the BBC North West Sports Awards. The event, which took place on Monday evening (28th November) at the Midland hotel in Manchester, attracted a number of high profile stars, including Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard, Boxing superstar Amir Khan, along with players from Premiership teams including Manchester City and Wigan Athletic. Simon Bridle (Junior Club Chairman) and Sam Naylor (Club Chairman) took to the stage to accept the award from Carole Hassan, member of the North West Sports Board. On receiving the award Simon Bridle said: “Obviously, this is a huge honour for the club and we are thrilled to bits to receive it. Although only two of us could be present to receive this honour I would like to thank all the club’s helpers, volunteers and sponsors for their support and encouragement. I can only guess that the judges were impressed by not only the range, but the depth of activities the club have and continue to offer in our community. This has included providing the opportunity to play both rugby and tag rugby, for girls and boys of all ages as well to men and now women’s teams.”
Sport England, the body that promotes and invests in community sport, sponsored the award to highlight the amazing achievements being made by clubs involved in sport at the grass roots level. Stewart Kellett, Regional Director for Sport England North West said: “ At Sport England we aim to give people of all ages and abilities the chance to start, stay and succeed in sport and physical activity at every level. “It’s great to see the likes of Wigan Athletic Football Club and Liverpool Football Club and getting recognised for their performance at the top level, but it’s equally as important to recognise the achievements of smaller, grass roots club that are vital to developing the stars of the future.
“I’d like to congratulate Northwich RUFC on winning the award and all the nominees for their fantastic achievements.” The award will be televised on BBC 1 on Friday 2nd December at 11.35pm.
