4th XV Match Reports 2011-12

4th XV Match Reports 2011-12

September 3th
4th XV vs Heaton Moor 2nds (Away) Lost 45-5
Northwich traveled with 13 players and a much weakened team compared to last
season. Heaton on the other hand were relegated from two leagues above Northwich
last season due to a complaint from our neighbours Winnington Park regarding them fielding ineligible players in a league game. The result was that mid table Heaton were forced into South 4.
Heaton were a well drilled side with a strong pack and exciting back, the Heaton captain and 10 ran the show well all game. Injuries to Pete Naylor and Paul Hilditch meant Heaton giving Northwich two players to keep the game running.

Northwich were outclassed for the majority of the game but did muster a 20 minute period in the second half to show glimpes of last seasons good work. A well driven maul resulted in a Jon Caulfield try although this could not be converted. Northwch have concerns about Martin Johnson possibly taking their awesome back three of 'sarge, Lloydy and young Clarkey' over to NZ.

Team 1 Hilditch, 2 Cocky, 3 ,4 Dale, Big Danny, 6 blank, 7 blank, 8 Caulfield,
9 Hawkins, 10 Houghton, 11 Lloyd, 12 Naylor, 13 Leyland, 14 Clarke, 15
Sergeant.

September 17th 4th XV vs Didsbury TOCH 2nds (Away) Won 33-3
Northwich arrived in Manchester with a much strengthened team more alike to last the team that achieved promotion, they started with a strong pack seeing players like Jez Gough, Webby and Rob Heath starting for the first time this season. The backs also looked strong with returns for Steve 'licky' McCormick and Rob 'triathlete' Jones, alongside Jon Keegan and young Chris at fly half.

Toch looked a good side and started the game well with a big pack and sharp looking centres, but Northwich got going half way through the first half and started to control things at the line out and dominate scrum time. Young Chris at 10 had a fine game and we hope he plays the rest of the season alongside Michael Gough who started in the back row.

Big games were had all round but particularly Rob Jones, Aussie Nigel and young Chris. Try scorers included Keegan, Farrow and young Chris.

Team:  1 Gough, 2 Coley, 3 Webb, 4 Dale,5 Heath, 6 Gough, Taylor, 8 Farrow, 9 Rollo, 10 Young Chris, 11 Jedward, 12 Keegan, 13 McCormick,14 Tedward, 15 Jones, subs: Cocoran

September 24th 4th XV vs Knutsford 2nds (Away) Lost 17-10
Northwich travelled with a reasonably strong but changed side from last week to Knutsford, the pack was looking good on paper but were up against a strong experienced pack provided by the opposition. The back line of Northwich had 3 changes from the dominant winning back line of last week. Ian Robinson playing at fly half for the first time in many seasons and Bebbo starting at scrum half (since his switch from rugby league) meant an unfamiliar half back pairing for Northwich.

Northwich were again unlucky not score more points in the second half through their hard work around the  breakdown area. A webby try converted by Robbo and a Robbo penalty scored the only points for the blacks. A little bit more determination to get around the park is required from the ageing Northwich pack for next weeks game against Winnington Park.

Team; Gough, Coley, Webb, Dale, Beef, Leyland, Caulfield, Heath. Bebbington, Robinson, Jedward, Farrow, Houghton, Tedward. Subs; Andy, Taylor

February 18th 4th XV vs Crewe & Nantwich (Home) Lost 20-16
This was also a very close tie, with a Carl Senior penalty from half way being the only score in the first half. As tiredness crept in the game opened up more but it looked like the home side would just edge it. However in the dying minutes of the game C&N forced their way over in the corner and although Northwich did have an opportunity to win back the game, their handling let them down and they lost 16 – 20.
